Ready to Bring the Taste of Bali to the World, Poltekpar Bali Opens Collaboration Opportunities with Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Nusa Dua – Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar Bali) welcomed Ms. Simone Nabbs, Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong PolyU). This initial meeting marks the beginning of potential collaboration, primarily in the culinary field.
Ms. Nabbs’ visit to Poltekpar Bali was warmly received by the Director of Poltekpar Bali, Dr. Drs. Ida Bagus Putu Puja, M.Kes, along with the Vice Directors I and III, the Head of the Academic Administration and Cooperation Division, the Head of the Tourism Department, the Coordinator of the Culinary Arts Study Program, and the BiTP Global team. This meeting served as the first discussion about exploring collaboration opportunities with Hong Kong PolyU in the culinary sector. The Australian-born chef also expressed her eagerness to introduce new flavors at Hong Kong PolyU, particularly Balinese cuisine.
“We at Hong Kong PolyU are a melting pot where various cultures, especially in the culinary field, are commonly encountered. We want to continue exploring different flavors beyond East Asia, and eventually, we discovered Poltekpar Bali,” said Ms. Nabbs.
Ms. Nabbs shared her admiration for how Poltekpar Bali has been able to preserve local and Indonesian culinary traditions, even incorporating them into the educational curriculum. The Coordinator of the D3 Culinary Arts Study Program, Mr. I Made Purwa Dana Atmaja, S.ST.Par., M.Pd., explained that Poltekpar Bali is a Center of Excellence in the field of culture.
“Poltekpar Bali students, especially those in the D3 Culinary Arts program, are not only trained to have competencies in international cuisine but also to focus on ‘preserving local taste,’” said Purwa. He further mentioned that students have a special mission to bring the taste of Balinese cuisine to a global audience.
The Director of Poltekpar Bali, Dr. Drs. Ida Bagus Putu Puja, M.Kes, added that Poltekpar Bali is excited to introduce the unique flavors of Bali to Hong Kong through this collaboration. He emphasized that collaboration is an effective way to exchange cultures and broaden perspectives. This sentiment was also shared by the Vice Director III for Cooperation, Dr. Luh Yusni Wiarti, A.Par., S.E, M.Par., M.Rech.
“We hope that this collaboration will not only focus on Balinese culinary training but also expand to other sectors, including internships, student exchanges, credit transfers, guest lectures, and research collaborations,” Dr. Yusni added.
Ms. Nabbs warmly welcomed the collaboration opportunities, as Hong Kong PolyU is very open to the development of vocational education.
“We would be very happy to invite the entire management team of Poltekpar Bali to sign the MoU at Hong Kong PolyU,” Ms. Nabbs invited.
After the discussion at Poltekpar Bali’s Multipurpose Room, the management team took Ms. Nabbs on a tour of the three kitchen labs at Poltekpar Bali.
Collaboration with international educational institutions is one of Poltekpar Bali's efforts to realize its vision as a world-class tourism higher education institution. A partnership with stakeholders in Hong Kong was already initiated earlier this year, sending 33 Poltekpar Bali students for their Industrial Work Practice (internship) at various hotels in Hong Kong.
