Poltekpar Bali Partners with Surakarta Tourism Office for Community Service Program on Sustainable Tourism Development
Surakarta, November 11, 2024 – Politeknik Pariwisata Bali has collaborated with the Cultural and Tourism Office of Surakarta City to organize a Collaborative Community Service Program (PKM) in Surakarta. The two-day program, held from November 11-12, 2024, carries the theme "Enhancing Local Human Resource Capacity for Sustainable Tourism in the Tourism Villages of Surakarta City, Central Java."
This PKM is the result of a collaboration between Poltekpar Bali, an academic institution, and the local government, particularly the Cultural and Tourism Office of Surakarta. It serves as a real example of the role of academia in supporting the development of sustainable local tourism, especially by strengthening human resources (HR) in emerging tourism villages in Surakarta.
Surakarta, known as the cultural hub of Java, is rich in cultural heritage, history, and tourist attractions. However, the city faces challenges in effectively managing its tourism potential. In his remarks, I Nengah Wirata, SE., M.Par., Chairman of the Committee, explained that the objective of the program is to provide training on identifying tourism product potentials, developing tour packages, as well as innovation in tourism products and digital marketing. “The challenge faced by tourism villages in Surakarta is that the managers are not yet capable of managing the destinations in a professional and sustainable manner,” he said.
