Labuan Bajo, November 12-13, 2024 – Bali State Polytechnic of Tourism (Poltekpar Bali) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the transformation of Labuan Bajo as a regenerative tourism destination. Through the community service program titled "Development of Tourism Human Resource Capacity through Destination Management Assistance and Utilization of Local Products to Support Regenerative Tourism," Poltekpar Bali has taken a concrete step toward creating harmony between tourism, the environment, and local community empowerment. This program also received full support from the Master’s Degree in Applied Tourism, the Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Tourism Destinations, and the Diploma III in Culinary Arts programs, each contributing specialized expertise for the program's success.

The event was officially opened by Mr. Chrispianus Mesima, SST.Par, M.Par, Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Creative Economy, and Culture of West Manggarai Regency. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of local community involvement as the main driver in managing tourism that is not only environmentally friendly but also capable of regenerating the existing natural and cultural potential.

During the two-day event, 50 participants representing tourism associations, local communities, and relevant government agencies underwent intensive training covering various aspects. The program was designed collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary approach, including sustainable tourism destination development, optimization of local products for culinary attractions, and the implementation of modern hospitality concepts. Culinary demonstrations highlighting the use of local ingredients were a major focus, providing participants with new insights into the gastronomic potential of Labuan Bajo, which can attract both domestic and international tourists.

Dr. Putu Diah Sastri Pitanatri, Head of the Research and Community Service Center at Poltekpar Bali, shared the grand vision of the program. According to her, regenerative tourism is not just a trend but an approach that requires collaboration between local communities, academics, and industry players to create long-term positive impacts. The support from the Master’s Degree in Applied Tourism, focusing on sustainable destination management, as well as the Tourism Destination and Culinary Arts programs, enriched the program’s content with both academic and practical perspectives.

Labuan Bajo, with its stunning natural beauty and rich local culture, has great potential to become a world-class destination. However, sustainability challenges must be addressed collectively. This program offers an innovative solution by integrating education, field practice, and community involvement in the wise management of local resources. With this approach, Labuan Bajo is expected not only to maintain its charm but also to leave a positive legacy for future generations.

As a super-priority destination, Labuan Bajo now has a stronger foundation for development, thanks to the support of Poltekpar Bali and its academic programs. This initiative is tangible proof that the synergy between education, innovation, and community involvement can bring meaningful change to the tourism industry.
