MAKASSAR, GOSULSEL.COM — The Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar), under the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, held a Guest Lecture for the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, with over 6,000 participants attending.

Poltekpar institutions under the Ministry of Tourism include Poltekpar Medan, Poltekpar Palembang, Poltekpar NHI Bandung, Poltekpar Bali, Poltekpar Makassar, and Poltekpar Lombok. The host for this hybrid event was Poltekpar Makassar.

The guest lecture featured high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Tourism, directors of Poltekpar, academics, students, and tourism practitioners, focusing on the development of sustainable marine and wellness tourism.

The Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, also attended and gave an online speech via Zoom. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of implementing sustainable tourism as part of the national strategy.

"Sustainable tourism ensures that tourism activities not only provide economic benefits but also preserve environmental sustainability and social-cultural well-being. Marine tourism utilizes Indonesia's maritime wealth, offering exclusive experiences that introduce the beauty of the sea while supporting ecosystem conservation. Meanwhile, wellness tourism focuses on physical and mental well-being, a trend increasingly popular among modern tourists. The synergy of these three elements will create a resilient and competitive tourism ecosystem," said Widiyanti.

The guest lecture also discussed the Blue, Green, and Circular Economy (BGCE) approach as the main strategy to improve national tourism competitiveness in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025–2029. This concept integrates economic growth with marine environmental conservation (blue economy), sustainable resource management (green economy), and efficient resource use through waste reduction (circular economy).

One of the interesting sessions was delivered by Dedy Irfan Bachri, General Manager of the Maros-Pangkep UNESCO Global Geopark, who presented the potential of the Maros-Pangkep Geopark as a world-class geological tourism destination. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, academia, and the community in managing geoparks sustainably.

"Geoparks are not just about nature conservation, but also about empowering local communities through responsible tourism," Dedy explained.

Meanwhile, Andi Adriana Rumpang, Puteri Indonesia Sulawesi Selatan 2025, discussed the growing trend of wellness tourism among global tourists. According to her, wellness tourism goes beyond spas and yoga; it also includes eco-health tourism, mindful travel, and traditional therapies based on local wisdom.

"South Sulawesi has incredible potential as a wellness tourism destination, with its cultural and natural wealth supporting this sector," she said.

The event concluded with an interactive discussion session involving students from Poltekpar across various regions. The discussion provided a platform for sharing ideas, experiences, and strategies for facing the challenges of sustainable tourism development in Indonesia.

With a total of 6,348 participants, including 4,203 online viewers via YouTube, this guest lecture demonstrated the Ministry of Tourism's commitment to creating a more resilient, innovative, and globally competitive tourism ecosystem in Indonesia.
