“I am very proud every time we admit new students. This year, we will open registration for the 2024/2025 academic year,” said Menparekraf Sandiaga during the launch event of SBM Poltekpar 2024/2025 on Monday (February 26, 2024), at the event The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno. “Once again, I urge prospective Poltekpar applicants to seriously consider this opportunity because it is a path to success. Do you want to get a job or start a business? Study at Poltekpar. With hope and the blessing of Allah SWT, today, Monday, February 26, 2024, the Joint Selection Entrance Poltekpar is officially opened,” stated Menparekraf Sandiaga.
Ida Bagus Putu Puja, the Director of Poltekpar Bali and Chairman of the 2024-2025 Poltekpar Admissions Committee, mentioned that the joint selection is one of the two admission pathways for new Poltekpar students. In addition to the joint selection, the six Poltekpar institutions under Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf, namely Poltekpar Medan, Poltekpar Palembang, Poltekpar NHI Bandung, Poltekpar Bali, Poltekpar Lombok, and Poltekpar Makassar, will also conduct individual entrance selections scheduled by each Poltekpar. “We divide the joint selection process into three stages,” said Puja.
The first stage is the Scholastic and Literacy Test, which will be held on May 20, 2024, followed by an interview on June 6-7, 2024, and a health test on June 10, 2024. “Registration for the SBM will take place from today, February 26, 2024, until May 4, 2024,” added Puja.
Andar Danova L. Goeltom, Head of the HR Development Center at Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf, explained that this year’s quota for new Poltekpar students is 3,660, with 60 percent allocated for the joint selection and 40 percent for the individual selection. “The target for this year is 14,460 applicants,” said Andar.
Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, Secretary of Kemenparekraf/Head Secretary of Baparekraf, stated that tourism is a key element for economic transformation, and national policies have emphasized that vocational education is also prioritized. “Our schools under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy are all vocational schools. The fact is that our students do not need to wait a year to be absorbed into the workforce; many are already employed before graduation. That is a fact,” said Giri.
Febrie Purwoandhika, an alumnus of Poltekpar NHI Bandung and a civil servant at Kemenparekraf, shared that during his studies at Poltekpar, he gained best practices, especially practical training, which was very adequate both in terms of knowledge and facilities. “Seventy percent of the knowledge we gain at Poltekpar is practical, with around 30 percent being theory taught directly by lecturers involved in the hospitality industry,” said Febrie.
Furthermore, Poltekpar students have competency certification opportunities and can work as daily or casual workers in top hotels or cafes in the Indonesian tourism industry. “So they are well-prepared because 70 percent of the knowledge acquired is practical,” Febrie added.
