Tomohon, October 25, 2024 – Bali Tourism Polytechnic, through its Room Division Program, successfully organized a Community Service Program (PkM) in collaboration with the Tomohon City Tourism Office, held at the Amaris Hotel in Manado on October 25, 2024. The focus of this activity was on housekeeping training in the tourist villages of Tomohon, North Sulawesi, aimed at making a significant contribution to improving the social welfare of the community, particularly through the development of accommodation in the city of Tomohon.
The training focused on enhancing the quality of accommodation services in local lodgings, such as homestays and small inns, which are important elements of the village tourism sector. Participants were trained in how to maintain cleanliness, improve security, and ensure comfort for guests.
This training was not only aimed at improving technical skills in accommodation management but also serves as a solution to address social issues in Tomohon, such as limited job access and low living standards. By providing comprehensive training to the local community, Poltekpar Bali hopes to improve their skills so they can create more attractive, safe, and comfortable accommodations for tourists.
Participants were taught the principles of cleanliness in housekeeping, from cleaning rooms and common areas to maintaining toilet cleanliness, which is a key indicator of accommodation service quality. They were also educated about the basic needs of tourists, such as safety and comfort during their stay, which is expected to increase tourist stays and have a positive impact on local income.
Poltekpar Bali, through this PkM, also worked with the Tomohon City Tourism Office and stakeholders to ensure that the training results could be implemented sustainably. This activity is part of Poltekpar Bali's tangible contribution to promoting community empowerment and inclusive tourism development.
The Head of the Tomohon City Tourism Office, Mr. Judisthira A.K. Siwu, expressed his appreciation for the training, saying, "This housekeeping training not only enhances the community's skills but also provides them with opportunities to actively participate in the local tourism industry. It is an important step in addressing social issues in Tomohon, where the local community now has access to improve their quality of life through relevant skills in the hospitality sector."
The participants greeted each training session with enthusiasm. They felt that the training provided new, practical knowledge that could be applied in their daily work. Many of the participants expressed gratitude, stating that the skills they acquired would help improve the services at the accommodations they manage, and they hoped it would enhance the appeal of their lodgings to tourists.
Through this activity, Poltekpar Bali continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting social and economic development through sustainable tourism.
