Digital Technology is the Key! Poltekpar Bali Drives Tomohon’s Tourism Marketing to the Next Level
Tomohon, October 25, 2024 – Politeknik Pariwisata Bali, through its Hospitality Management Study Program, successfully conducted a Hospitality Marketing training as part of its Community Service Program (PkM) in collaboration with the Tourism Office of Tomohon City. The training took place at the Amaris Hotel, Manado, on October 25, 2024. The purpose of this training was to enhance the ability of local business owners to market their tourism products and services using digital technology, thereby taking Tomohon's tourism marketing to a new, more competitive, and sustainable level.
The training provided participants, including local business owners such as homestay managers, restaurant operators, and café owners, with in-depth knowledge of digital marketing strategies, including the use of social media, e-commerce platforms, and content optimization. Digital technology was recognized as an effective tool for reaching a broader and more diverse market, especially amid the rapid development of technology-driven tourism.
One of the key outcomes of this training was the strategic marketing suggestion that focuses on using digital technology as a primary tool to promote Tomohon as a tourism destination, highlighting its unique culture and natural beauty. This approach also advocates for collaboration between various stakeholders, such as the government, businesses, and local communities, to create effective and inclusive marketing strategies.
The training employed a collaborative approach using the Pentahelix model, which involves five key elements: government, business, academia, community, and media. This collaboration is expected to strengthen Tomohon's tourism marketing by improving human resource capacity and developing targeted, sustainable marketing strategies. Participants were trained to understand the importance of market segmentation and targeting the right audience to make Tomohon's tourism promotion more effective and relevant.
Participants responded positively to the material presented, especially regarding the use of digital technology in tourism marketing. They recognized that using social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok could be highly effective tools for promoting their tourism products with lower costs and broader reach. Additionally, they were trained in optimizing digital content to make their products and services more appealing and easily found by potential tourists.
Thanks to this training, participants feel more prepared to face the challenges of marketing in the digital age. They are confident that sustainable marketing strategies, leveraging digital technology, will strengthen Tomohon's position as a unique and sustainable tourism destination for both domestic and international tourists. Stakeholders in Tomohon's tourism sector are expected to implement the outcomes of this training as part of a long-term policy for tourism development.
Through this PkM program, Politeknik Pariwisata Bali continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting sustainable tourism development in various regions across Indonesia. By providing relevant, technology-based training, Poltekpar Bali aims to create lasting change that not only enhances human resource capacity but also helps local business owners navigate the digitalization of tourism.
