Collaborating with Bali Poltekpar, TCI Unud Holds Mid-Autumn Festival 2024
Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI) of the Faculty of Tourism, Udayana University (Unud), in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar and the Bali Polytechnic of Tourism (Poltekpar Bali), held the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The event took place at Joop Ave Hall, Poltekpar Bali, and featured a blend of Indonesian, particularly Balinese, and Chinese cultures.
Zhang Zhisheng, the Chinese Consul General in Denpasar, expressed his happiness during the festival, which is traditionally held to celebrate the harvest season. According to him, this moment is typically filled with family gatherings, sharing kindness, and maintaining solidarity.
For this year's celebration, cultural activities were held with both students and lecturers from Poltekpar Bali. He emphasized that this event is important for students who will work in the tourism sector to gain knowledge about Chinese culture.
By gaining more cultural knowledge, they will better understand how to interact with tourists, especially Chinese visitors. “We hope that in the future, the friendship between China and Indonesia, especially Bali, will continue to strengthen,” he said. Meanwhile, Dr. Drs. Ida Bagus Putu Puja, M.Kes., Director of Poltekpar Bali, stated that this event is a tangible form of collaboration between Indonesia and China, especially in the cultural field. Through this understanding, students can enhance their cultural knowledge. “If we look at the relationship between China and Indonesia, especially Bali, it has been well-established for a long time, with cultural exchanges that have taken place for years,” he said.
Looking ahead, Poltekpar Bali is striving to strengthen cooperation with China. In the near future, Poltekpar Bali plans to develop a learning center called the China Center.
“In addition to culture, we will also collaborate in the culinary arts and language understanding. We also have student and lecturer exchange programs. Through this collaboration, we hope to enhance partnerships in tourism-related fields,” he said.
At the same event, Dr. Drs. Made Sendra, M.Si., Director of the Indonesia Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI) at Udayana University, explained that TCI Unud has collaborated with Bali State Polytechnic through the Mandarin Center, and also with Poltekpar Bali.
He said all of this is aimed at enhancing the understanding of Chinese culture. In Bali, Chinese tourists, both before and after COVID-19, have been a major tourism market. Therefore, to improve service quality, Bali's tourism stakeholders must be well-prepared through tourism schools.
He added that Mandarin has become a very popular language. This is because language learning depends on which tourists frequently visit Bali. Besides language, understanding the culture is also important. “This is very crucial because they come to Bali not only as tourists, but Bali and China have a close relationship in terms of cultural acculturation,” he explained.
