Building Event-Based Tourism Promotion, Poltekpar Bali Manado Campus Empowers Indigenous Communities in Tenganan Dauh Tukad
MANADOPOST.ID – A warm atmosphere and a spirit of collaboration were felt in Tenganan Dauh Tukad Village, Karangasem, as the team from the Bali Tourism Polytechnic Manado Campus' Off-Campus Program (PSDKU) carried out a Community Service (PKM) activity aimed at strengthening tourism promotion based on local culture through an event-based approach.
With the overarching theme of training and community empowerment, this activity was a tangible form of academic involvement in supporting the development of sustainable tourist destinations rooted in local traditions and wisdom.
As an indigenous village rich in tradition and rituals, Tenganan Dauh Tukad was chosen as the location for this event by the Convention and Event Management Study Program. The team, consisting of lecturers and students, engaged directly with the community for two days, creating synergy between vocational education and village life. On the first day, the activity included participation in the "war of bananas" tradition— a cultural ceremony symbolizing the strength of solidarity and the spiritual values of the Tenganan community.
By witnessing and immersing themselves in the ritual, the PKM participants not only learned about local culture but also strengthened the social bond between the campus and the indigenous community.
The second day marked the highlight of the community service activities when an event marketing training session was held, featuring three experienced speakers in the fields of event management and digital promotion.
Putu Surya Laksana Rahjasa opened the session with a presentation on the role of events as a promotional tool for destinations.
This was followed by Ni Kadek Swandewi, who explained practical and relevant event marketing strategies for local tourism stakeholders. Lastly, I Gede Made Sukariyanto provided a training session on digital content editing for social media promotion and other online platforms.
The official opening of the event was conducted by Dr. Diah Sastri Pitanatri, Head of the Research and Community Service Center at Bali Tourism Polytechnic, representing the Director of Bali Tourism Polytechnic.
In her speech, she emphasized the importance of vocational education in supporting the transformation of village tourism through active collaboration based on the community's needs.
According to her, education is not just about transferring knowledge in the classroom but also about creating direct positive impacts for the community.
The enthusiasm of the Tenganan Dauh Tukad Village community was clearly evident throughout the activity.
The Indigenous Village Chief, I Wayan Tisna, welcomed the initiative and expressed his appreciation for the presence of Poltekpar Bali, which he believed brought fresh air to the village community.
“For almost two decades, our village has never received attention from the academic community, and this initiative brings new hope in developing the village's tourism potential through event-based promotion. The traditions that have been passed down through generations now have the opportunity to be digitally packaged and shared with a wider audience without losing their sacred and authentic values.”
