Albanian Delegation Interested in Bali Tourism Campus, Ambassador Iwan: Eyeing 25,000 Indonesian Migrant Workers
RM.id Rakyat Merdeka - The Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bulgaria, Albania, and North Macedonia, Iwan Bogananta, along with a delegation from the Albanian Ministry of Economy, visited Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) and the International Tourism and Business Institute (IPBI). The purpose of the visit was to learn about the curriculum as a comparison to that in Albania.
Ambassador Iwan stated that Albania, with its significant surge in tourists, needs around 21,000 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) for the tourism sector. "This is a good opportunity for Indonesia to send formal workers in the tourism field to Albania," he said.
In recent years, Albania has seen an increase in tourist visits from neighboring countries such as Italy, Greece, and Poland. In 2023, nearly 10.1 million foreign tourists visited Albania. This has prompted the Albanian government to boost the development of tourism and hospitality infrastructure in the country.
"With the signing of the Employment Letter of Intent (LoI), we hope that the deployment of 100 Indonesian workers in the tourism sector as a pilot project can be realized soon, leading to the formation of an umbrella agreement between the two countries," Iwan explained.
The Director-General of the National Employment and Skills Agency, Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation of Albania, Klevis Hysa, expressed his desire to learn from Bali's success in managing tourism. Based on his observations, the curriculum and facilities at both campuses are generally similar.
"We also want to send our students to gain knowledge at tourism campuses in Indonesia," he said.
The Director of Poltekpar welcomed the initiative by the Indonesian Embassy in Sofia to open job opportunities for Indonesian tourism graduates. Currently, Poltekpar consists of six campuses and annually produces approximately 4,000 graduates, ranging from Diploma III, Diploma IV, to Applied Master's degrees.
Meanwhile, during the meeting at the IPBI campus, the Chairman of the Dharma Widya Ulangun Foundation, I Nyoman Gede Astina, expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Iwan Bogananta's efforts. "IPBI has produced top graduates in the tourism sector, and through our foundation's group company, PT. Bali Duta Mandiri, we have sent IPBI graduates to various countries including Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia," Astina explained.
"IPBI has adequate training facilities to ensure that graduates are skilled in their fields. Additionally, we provide training in dance, MC skills, and services such as airport protocol. Currently, IPBI is also preparing a doctoral program in tourism. If achieved, it will be the first of its kind in Indonesia," Astina added.
From the visit, Ambassador Iwan expressed pride in the achievements of Poltekpar and IPBI, which further strengthened his confidence in seizing job opportunities in Albania and Bulgaria for Indonesian tourism graduates.
