50 Bali Tourism Polytechnic Students Selected as LOs for UN Tourism Conference, Minister of Tourism Provides Briefing
TRIBUN-BALI.COM, MANGUPURA - Fifty students from Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar Bali) have been selected as Liaison Officers (LOs) for “The 2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in Tourism in Asia and the Pacific” to be held at BICC The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali, on May 2-4, 2024. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, provided a briefing for the 50 Poltekpar Bali student LOs at the MICE Widyatula Building of Poltekpar Bali on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Minister Sandiaga advised the 50 selected students not only to perform their duties as LOs but also to act as tourism ambassadors to introduce Bali’s nature and culture, and to provide memorable experiences for the delegates.
Additionally, the UN Tourism Conference is a pre-event for the World Water Forum, allowing the LOs to practice preparing for and welcoming the attending delegates and offering the best services.
Minister Sandiaga explained that Bali Tourism Polytechnic is trusted as the host for “The 2nd UN Tourism Regional Conference on the Empowerment of Women in Tourism in Asia and the Pacific,” requiring proper implementation of the briefing given over the past three days to the LOs involved in the UN Tourism Conference series.
“This is an achievement that we are trusted by UN Tourism to host this very important conference,” he added.
This further solidifies Indonesia's and especially Bali’s position in taking an active role as a member of the executive council of UN Tourism in the Asia-Pacific region, which emphasizes issues of women’s empowerment.
“Therefore, the role of LOs is crucial in ensuring the success of the UN Tourism Conference,” said Sandiaga.
Minister Sandiaga also urged the students on duty to display the characteristic hospitality of the Balinese people, which has always been a unique attraction for international tourists. This hospitality is, of course, supported by adequate foreign language skills among the 50 selected students.
“You must show that we have world-class hospitality capabilities,” he said.
“Our culture is one of hospitality. So, we should not be passive; we must always actively ask how we can help.”
“We must showcase the hospitality that has become Bali's trademark,” Sandiaga added.
At the same event, the Director of Poltekpar Bali, Ida Bagus Putu Puja, also expressed his appreciation to the 50 Poltekpar Bali students selected as LOs for the UN Tourism Conference.
“I am very grateful to all the Poltekpar Bali students who were selected as LOs. You have received important material related to protocol knowledge, effective communication, negotiation, and diplomacy from the speakers,” said Putu Puja.
He hopes that the LOs will be ready to perform their roles well in supporting the smooth running and success of the UN Tourism Conference.
